History

Merlin Motor City was born in 1996 as the first car supermarket in Ireland.

Merlin Motor City evolved from the Windsor Motor Group, which was established in 1974 by Michael and Rita O’Reilly who started the Windsor Motor Group with a car rental company located in Harolds Cross, Dublin 6. Due to the phenomenal success of the company they expanded their business operations to car auctioneering and then again to retail car sales. The group grew from strength to strength and in 1999 the Windsor brand along with several of the retail operations were sold to Nissan Ireland.

Michael and Rita retained three of the businesses and continued operating as the Merlin Motor Group, named after their eldest son Merlin O’Reilly who is the company’s CEO today. The three remaining companies were Merlin Car Auctions, Merlin Car Rental and of course Merlin Motor City.

In 1996 Merlin Motor City was born and revolutionised the way used cars were sold in Ireland. The large site which offered over 100 cars including every make and model under one roof allowed Merlin to offer the best used car prices in Ireland. Right from the very beginning a ethos was instilled in the company of guaranteeing customers the best value, choice and service everyday, everytime, without fail and with no exceptions!
